Firm-Wide Successes Spur 29 Percent Growth Rate Over Past Three Years
CHICAGO, IL - August 2, 2004 - McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Ltd. announced today that the firm is celebrating its 16th anniversary, noting a significant increase during the past few years in litigation successes, volume of patent and trademark applications filed and issued, and multi-million dollar intellectual property transactions closed. Founded by six lawyers in 1988 and today comprised of 84 lawyers and seven patent agents, the firm's recent performance and success has solidified McAndrews, Held & Malloy's reputation as one of the nation's preeminent legal resources on intellectual property and technology matters.
"Our attorneys' vast experience and exceptional performance has made us one of the leading sources of counsel for intellectual property matters," said George P. McAndrews, founding and managing partner of McAndrews, Held & Malloy. "From large, multinational corporations to start-ups, we have consistently achieved successes for our clients. We have also been consistently recognized by our colleagues and peers for our tenacious, innovative approach to solving complex intellectual property issues."
This success has translated into sustained and significant growth for the firm, as McAndrews, Held & Malloy has experienced a 29 percent growth rate for the period 2001 to 2004, despite a sluggish global economy. By comparison, the National Law Journal has reported that, from October 2002 to September 2003, the country's largest 250 law firms experienced only a 1.6 percent average growth rate, with one-third of these firms surveyed losing lawyers.
"The intellectual property legal field is expanding at a rapid pace as greater concern is placed on companies' intellectual capital," said Timothy J. Malloy, founding partner of McAndrews, Held & Malloy. "With this concern comes a sharp increase in demand for our expertise. Given our record of success in patent litigation and the teams we have assembled, never before in our 16 years has our firm been in a better position to counsel clients regarding their intellectual capital needs."
McAndrews, Held & Malloy's recent successes include a $166 million patent litigation award on behalf of client Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., which is recognized as one of the top 10 largest intellectual property damages awards in U.S. history. Other recent successes of note include: Norian Corporation v. Stryker Corporation [Case No. 02-1490 (Fed. Cir. April 6, 2004)]; Ovion, Inc. v. Conceptus, Inc. [Case No. 02-1968 (N.D. Cal. 2003)]; XOMA Ltd. v. Biosite Inc. [Case No. 01-2580 (N.D. Cal. 2003)]; Bretford Mfg., Inc. v. Smith System Mfg. Co. [Case No. 98 C 0287 (N.D. Ill. 2003)]; Castrol Limited v. George H. Nunes, Inc., et al. [Case No. 01-6206 (E.D. Cal. 2003)]; and Genlyte Thomas Group, LLC v. NSI [Case No. 3:00-CV-174 (W.D. Ky. 2003)].
