McAndrews, Held & Malloy Adds Eight New Associates to Firm


 

CHICAGO, IL – December 8, 2005 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy announced today the addition of eight new associates to the firm.  In addition to law degrees, the associates also hold advanced degrees in areas such as engineering, chemistry or biology.

New associates at McAndrews, Held & Malloy include the following:

Patrick V. Bradley graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School and summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Duke University.  He has an extensive background in biotechnology and the life sciences.  Prior to studying intellectual property law, he was enrolled at Northwestern University Medical School.  Bradley joined McAndrews, Held & Malloy as a summer law clerk in 2003 and accumulated significant experience in a variety of intellectual property law areas.  He specifically focused on patent litigation matters involving cardiac stent technologies.

Leonard D. Conapinski graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law.  He also holds both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated cum laude.  While at Northwestern Law, Conapinski served as associate editor of the Northwestern University Law Review, and was a founding member and managing editor of the Northwestern Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property.  He also served as a judicial extern at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  Conapinski joined McAndrews, Held, & Malloy as a summer law clerk in 2002.  Before joining the firm full time, he also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alvin A. Schall, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  

Adam J. Faier graduated magna cum laude from University of Illinois College of Law.  He also holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in computer science, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering, from Washington University in St.
Louis.  During law school, Faier served as online editor of the University of Illinois Journal of Law, Technology & Policy, a peer-reviewed journal addressing issues at the intersection of intellectual property law, technology and public policy.  Prior to attending law school, he worked as a senior engineer for the Boeing Company as part of a research and development group that focused on simulation networking.  As a summer law clerk at McAndrews, Held, & Malloy in 2003, he focused on patent prosecution and litigation matters.  Faier is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Sarah A. Kofflin graduated magna cum laude from DePaul University College of Law and also graduated summa cum laude from Saint Mary’s College with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.  While in law school at DePaul, Kofflin was awarded a dean’s scholarship, and also advised pro bono clients at the DePaul Technology/ Intellectual Property Clinic.  During her previous experience as a summer law clerk at McAndrews, Held & Malloy in 2003, she gained experience in patent litigation and prosecution across a variety of technologies.

Michael J. Krautner graduated from the University of Michigan Law School.  Earlier at the University of Michigan, he obtained a Master of Science and Engineering degree in industrial and operations engineering, and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.  Prior to law school, Krautner worked as an engineer in the automotive industry.  As a summer law clerk at McAndrews, Held & Malloy in 2003, he gained experience working on legal matters involving patent, copyright and trademark litigation and prosecution.

Christina Polyn graduated from University at Buffalo Law School and also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Rochester.  While in law school, Polyn received a certificate in Intellectual Property Law, and was a member of the Buffalo Intellectual Property Law Journal.  Polyn joined McAndrews, Held & Malloy as a summer law clerk in 2004, gaining patent prosecution and litigation experience in a wide variety of technological areas.  

Ali H. Shah graduated cum laude from University of Michigan Law School.  He also holds both a Ph.D. in immunology and microbial pathogenesis from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from University of Texas at Austin.  Dr. Shah’s previous experience includes working as a research assistant at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he researched genetic responses to lung injury; working at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, where he gained molecular biology experience studying breast cancer markers; and working as a research technician at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where he assisted in the development of DNA “chip” technologies.  Dr. Shah has published articles in national legal publications and medical journals.  

James H. Williams graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law.  He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an Associate in Applied Sciences degree in plastics technology from the College of DuPage.  Prior to law school, Williams worked as an engineer in the plastics industry.  He joined McAndrews, Held & Malloy as a summer law clerk in 2003, and has since gained significant experience prosecuting patents, preparing invalidity and non-infringement opinions and product clearances, managing client portfolios, and counseling clients on non-disclosure and license agreements.  Williams is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He is also a licensed professional engineer in the state of Illinois.
