McAndrews, Held & Malloy Partner Named President-Elect and First Vice President of Indian American Bar Association of Chicago


 

CHICAGO – February 22, 2006 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy announced today that partner Mirut P. Dalal has been named President-Elect and First Vice President of the Indian American Bar Association of Chicago (IABA-Chicago).  Founded in 2000, IABA-Chicago promotes the professional development of South Asian legal professionals, while also providing a forum for attorneys to exchange ideas and disseminate information on pro bono work and other civic activities.  IABA-Chicago has also played an integral role in establishing a national organization for South Asian attorneys.

At McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Dalal is a patent attorney with significant experience protecting intellectual property in such diverse technical areas as video compression, wireless telecommunications, computer software and hardware, fiber optics and biomedical devices.  Dalal is also involved in the litigation of complex technical cases and counsels clients on intellectual property issues relating to corporate mergers and acquisitions.  

While at the firm, Dalal has gained significant experience protecting intellectual property developed in India.  He travels frequently to India to educate executives about intellectual property law in the United States, and also works directly with engineers to develop strategies for protecting inventions.  An article authored by Dalal regarding patent law strategies in India is scheduled to appear in an upcoming issue of Managing Intellectual Property magazine.

Dalal is admitted to practice in Illinois and Texas, and is also a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  He graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law, and was admitted to the Order of the Coif.  He also received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas, and a Masters of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of Houston.
