Four McAndrews, Held & Malloy Attorneys Honored as ‘Illinois Super Lawyers’

CHICAGO – March 3, 2006 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy announced today that four of its attorneys were honored as “Illinois Super Lawyers” in the February 2006 issue of Chicago magazine.  Timothy J. Malloy and Herbert D. Hart III were listed as two of the top intellectual property litigators in the state.  John J. Held and William M. Wesley were recognized as two of the top intellectual property lawyers in Illinois.

The awards for “Illinois Super Lawyers” went to the leading attorneys in the state across a wide range of practice areas and firm sizes.  In addition to those in private practice, prosecutors, in-house counsel and public service lawyers were selected for the honor.  Only five percent of the attorneys in Illinois are named Super Lawyers.  To be considered, lawyers must be nominated by their peers in the industry.  Approximately 47,000 ballots were sent to Illinois attorneys practicing for five years or more, asking them to nominate whom they viewed as the best lawyers in the state.

Timothy J. Malloy is nationally known for his intellectual property litigation successes in the medical device, electrical and mechanical fields.  His professional highlights include arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Eli Lilly and Company the leading case directed to the scope of patent protection for medical devices, and securing one of the largest intellectual property damages awards in U.S. history on behalf of Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc.

Herbert D. Hart III is widely recognized for his expertise in patent interference matters, including managing and litigating interference proceedings, counseling clients on strategies for provoking interferences, and defending patents against attack.  His experience also includes counseling clients on trademark acquisition, licensing and portfolio management matters in subject areas such as petrochemicals, medical devices, chemical and petroleum refining processes, herbicides and polymerization catalysts.

John J. Held has successfully counseled clients across a wide spectrum of industries in patent, trademark and copyright infringement actions, patent appeals and interferences, and trademark opposition/cancellation proceedings.  His experience involves working with products such as automotive parts and equipment, web handling and processing equipment used by the printing industry, software products, refuse handling equipment, sporting goods and consumer products.

William M. Wesley is internationally known for his expertise in intellectual property litigation and licensing.  His experience includes conducting numerous bench and jury trials in complex litigation, both here and abroad, on products such as aircraft braking systems, electrical connectors, satellite communication systems, medical imaging technologies, microwave appliances, and digital computers and related components.  Wesley also specializes in conducting patent, trade secret and international trade proceedings, and he was instrumental in the development of arbitration for Patent Office interference proceedings.
