CHICAGO, IL – March 6, 2007 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy announced today that two of the firm’s founding partners and one of its shareholders were honored as “Illinois Super Lawyers” in the February 2007 issue of Chicago magazine. Founding partner Timothy J. Malloy was listed as one of the top intellectual property litigators in the state, as well as one of the top 100 lawyers in Illinois across all areas of practice. Founding partner John J. Held and shareholder Herbert D. Hart III were recognized as two of the top intellectual property lawyers in Illinois.
The awards for “Illinois Super Lawyers” went to the top 5 percent of attorneys in the state across a wide range of practice areas and firm sizes. In addition to those in private practice, prosecutors, in-house counsel and public service lawyers were selected for the honor.
To be considered, lawyers must be nominated by their peers in the industry. More than 47,000 ballots were sent to Illinois attorneys practicing for five years or more, asking them to nominate whom they viewed as the best lawyers in the state.
Timothy J. Malloy is nationally known for his intellectual property litigation successes in the medical device, electrical and mechanical fields. His professional highlights include arguing, before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Eli Lilly and Company, the leading case directed to the scope of patent protection for medical devices, and securing one of the largest intellectual property damages awards in U.S. history on behalf of Advance Cardiovascular Systems, Inc.

Held has successfully counseled clients across a wide spectrum of industries in patent, trademark and copyright infringement actions, patent appeals and interferences, and trademark oppositions/cancellation proceedings. His experience involves working with products such as automotive parts and equipment, web handling and processing equipment used by the printing industry, software products, refuse handling equipment, sporting goods and consumer products.
Herbert D. Hart III is widely recognized for his expertise in litigating and managing patent interference proceedings, as well as for counseling clients on strategies for provoking interferences and defending patents against attack. His interference cases have spanned a wide range of technologies, including the life sciences, medical devices, petrochemicals, petroleum refining processes, herbicides and polymerization catalysts.
