McAndrews, Held & Malloy Attorney Jay Nuttall Named One of Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s 2007 ‘40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch’

CHICAGO, IL – Sept. 6, 2007 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy shareholder James (Jay) R. Nuttall was named one of the 2007 “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company, publisher of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer.

The publisher noted that the honorees for this eighth annual edition of “40 Under Forty” are “a group of outstanding individuals who are much more than their favorable settlements, verdicts and appeals.  They are individuals who are passionate about their work, their clients and their community.”

The selection process is based on nominees’ career achievements, how quickly the nominees have risen within their area of practice, and their contributions to the community and the profession.  Nuttall’s peers attribute his success to his quick thinking, his effective and respectful cross-examination of witnesses, his ability to articulate complex legal and technical issues, and his honesty and dedication.  Nuttall was also recognized for his community service, including being an active participant in the Northern District of Illinois Trial Bar’s pro bono program, serving as a mentor for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of DuPage County, and volunteering at Sharing Connections, which provides assistance to low-income families.

As one of the top intellectual property law litigators in Chicago, Nuttall concentrates on matters involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets and unfair competition.  He has successfully served as lead or co-counsel on numerous major patent infringement cases, including successfully trying a complex 11-patent case, obtaining a jury verdict for one of the 15 largest patent damages awards in history, obtaining one of the largest attorneys’ fees awards in a patent case, and successfully defending a patent infringement claim for more than $100 million.

“We are very proud of Jay Nuttall and his contributions to our clients’ successes,” said founding partner and board chairman George P. McAndrews.  “His passion for his work and his clients, as well as his commitment to community involvement, makes him a leader and an inspiration.”
