Professional Experience
Andrew joined McAndrews, Held & Malloy as a summer associate in 2002, and as a full-time associate in the fall of 2004.  His practice includes all areas of intellectual property law, including patent litigation and prosecution.  Andrew focuses on complex electrical, software, and computer system technologies.

Before attending law school, Andrew practiced as an electrical and computer engineer for ten years.  As an engineer, he focused on communications and embedded technologies, including the design, development, and production of software applications and hardware systems.  Andrew created a wide variety of products, including applications, operating systems, motorcycle audio systems, home appliances, and intelligent control systems. Andrew has seen many of his designs go to market, and understands the complex pressures facing today’s high-tech firms.

Andrew graduated with a J.D. from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri in 2004.  He served as an editor of the law school’s oldest journal, the Washington University Law Quarterly.  Andrew actively participated in a variety of other law school organizations, including the Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts, for which he provided pro bono assistance to not-for-profit arts organizations.  Andrew also successfully defended a fellow student in a trial before the law school’s honor council.

Andrew graduated with a B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1992, where he was a member of the Eta Kappa Nu honor society.  While at the University of Michigan, he worked for several companies, including a metallurgy firm and General Electric.  Andrew also worked as a researcher at the University of Michigan on a remote sensing system that employed a high-power laser.
