Professional Experience
Chris Buchko is an associate at McAndrews, Held & Malloy, providing clients with patent prosecution, patent litigation, product clearance, and intellectual property due diligence expertise. He has represented clients in a range of technology areas, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, and medical imaging.
Prior to joining the firm, Chris worked as a patent agent and legal associate at Guidant Corporation, a medical device manufacturer, where he managed patent portfolios, performed due diligence for technology acquisitions, and provided technical expertise to the legal department.
Chris holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, where he wrote a dissertation on the processing and characterization of biocompatible polymeric films for neural prostheses, and is the coauthor of several technical papers and a book chapter on the same topic. Chris also holds a B.S. in Physics from Stanford University.
Chris has industrial experience as an engineer at Guidant Corporation, where he developed coatings for implantable medical devices, and at Affymax Research Institute, where he developed devices for combinatorial synthesis of peptides and oligonucleotides. His technical work at both companies resulted in U.S. patents on which he is an inventor.
