Professional Experience
Hopeton St. John Walker joined the firm in 2002. His practice concentrates primarily on patent prosecution, working on all aspects of technologies related to existing and next generation wired and wireless communications systems and technologies, including narrowband and broadband systems, access, infrastructure, transport and related user equipment (UE) and customer premise equipment (CPE) technologies. Hopeton has acquired extensive prosecution experience in various technologies, including GSM, GPRS, EDGE, CDMA, WCDMA, UMTS, HSDPA, Bluetooth, Gigabit PHY and MAC, 802.11 WLAN, 802.11 PHY and MAC, DVB, integrated cellular/DVB, TCP/IP Offload and Chimney Offload, iSCSI, RDMA, and wireless cryptography. Other technologies include VoIP, VoWLAN, DBS, MPEG-x, DTV and HDTV, and smart/adaptive antenna systems such as SIMO, MISO, MIMO, SC-MIMO, and SM-MIMO systems.
Hopeton gained a wealth of engineering experience in the Bell system, working for AT&T Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies and AT&T Shannon Laboratories. During his engineering career, Hopeton worked on a variety of technologies including Wireless/Cellular/PCS Systems including GSM base station controllers, radio base stations and GSM speech transcoding frame, and broadband communication systems including Cable, xDSL, IP telephony and a hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) communication systems. Hopeton also has extensive software experience and also experience with embedded processor systems and tools.
Hopeton is a prolific inventor and his inventive activities as an engineer has resulted in 41 issued US patents, over 25 US patents pending, and numerous foreign patents. The patents cover a wide range of technologies some of which include wireless access and transfer, providing broadband and high bandwidth packet based voice, video, data and Internet related services and solutions to local access subscribers using various wireless and wired access technologies such as xDSL over twisted pair, coaxial cable and HFC. Other technologies include Cable, IP telephony, in-building wireless systems, wireless centrex services, and wireless UE, CPE and network infrastructure.
