Professional Experience
John L. Abramic is an attorney specializing in the area of intellectual property law. His practice includes patent litigation, prosecution, and licensing; trade secret protection; trademark prosecution and litigation; and anti-trust litigation.
John has substantial patent litigation experience. He has represented clients with respect to a diverse field of technology, including pharmaceuticals, surgical and medical products, laboratory equipment, pharmaceutical packaging, petrochemical processes, networked lighting controls, construction machinery, and contact lenses. His practice involves all aspects of patent suits, including the examination of witnesses at trial, taking and defending depositions of witnesses, and conducting hearings before federal judges. John has represented clients at several patent trials in Federal Court and on appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. John has also represented clients in numerous patent interferences before the United States Patent and Trademark Office Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.
John also has substantial experience on the transactional side of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and licensing, trademark prosecution, opinion work, and conducting due diligence analyses. Recently, John counseled a client with respect to a multi-faceted settlement involving a patent interference, a trade secret lawsuit, and a multiple patent cross-license.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he graduated with honors and was a member of the Illinois Tech baseball team. Following graduation, he worked as a technical sales consultant in northwestern Indiana where he provided fluid processing equipment to a variety of industries, including steel mills, coal and gas fired power plants, and chemical production facilities.
In 1998, John was one of ten people to be awarded an Honors Scholarship at the Chicago-Kent College of Law. As an Honors Scholar he received a full tuition and living expense scholarship, and participated in specialized seminars, classes, and other programs designed to enrich the legal education. John received his law degree from Chicago-Kent where he graduated second in his class, was elected to the Order of the Coif, and was also a member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review.
