Professional Experience
Jonathan M. Rushman is an attorney specializing in intellectual property law. His practice includes patent procurement and litigation, trademark registration and disputes, and trade secret protection.
Jon has prepared and prosecuted patent applications for mechanical devices, electromechanical devices, software, and business methods concerning various technologies, including medical imaging systems, voltage regulation systems, power tools, automotive components, and biometrically secured systems. He has also provided patentability, freedom to operate and patent infringement opinions on various technologies.
Jon has been involved in patent litigation concerning various technologies, including methods and equipment used in materials handling systems and chemical compounds used in food preparation. His litigation experience includes day-to-day management of intellectual property actions, including coordinating and taking discovery, developing trial strategy and preparing pleadings and motions. Jon has also been involved in briefing and oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Jon graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 2004, earning the Intellectual Property Certificate with Patent Specialty. While there, Jon took classes in patent prosecution, patent litigation, trademarks, copyrights, antitrust and international intellectual property law. Jon also participated in DePaul’s Technology and Intellectual Property Clinic, where he counseled clients with regard to patent and trademark procurement and copyright infringement issues.
Jon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1999. While there, Jon gained industry experience in mechanical design and manufacturing processes as an intern for Eaton Corporation. Following graduation, Jon focused on computer-based technologies as a technical analyst for Accenture, an international business consulting firm.
