Professional Experience
Merle S. Elliott is a partner at McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Ltd. Her work includes patent litigation, prosecution, licensing and counseling.
Merle’s work in patent litigation has ranged across a wide variety of complex technologies, with particular depth in the area of medical devices. Her litigation experience covers all phases of discovery, including depositions, motions, court hearings, and work with experts. Merle has also been involved in briefing case-dispositive motions and in preparing appeal briefs. Assisting in drafting opinions, due diligence investigations, and licensing transactions are services she enjoys providing for clients.
Merle Elliott’s practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office includes patent drafting and prosecution. Most of Merle’s prosecution has focused on innovations in chemical and mechanical engineering.
Merle Elliott’s experience in the field of intellectual property law began with clerking when she was still a college undergraduate. She clerked with McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Ltd., as a Technical Assistant in the summer of 1999 and joined the firm upon graduation from law school in 2003. As a student at Georgetown University Law Center, Merle received a Dean’s Merit Scholarship during the first year the Scholarships were awarded.
While an undergraduate studying chemical engineering at Cornell University, Merle received a solid grounding in chemical and related sciences and technologies. She completed projects ranging from pilot plant-sized separation processes, to the design of an expansion for a full-blown oil refinery. While a student at Cornell, Merle received a scholarship from 3M Corp. and interned there as an analytical chemist, working principally with infrared spectroscopy. Also at Cornell, Merle had the opportunity to hone her skills explaining technology through her appointment as a Teaching Assistant for an introductory undergraduate chemical engineering class.
