Professional Experience
Patrick J. Arnold Jr. has been practicing law at McAndrews, Held & Malloy since 1990.  When he first began his practice, he also studied physics at the Illinois Institute of Technology while practicing intellectual property law full time.  While his practice has been concentrated in patent, trademark, and copyright litigation, he also assists clients in prosecution, counseling, and licensing.  Pat has been lead trial counsel on several lawsuits and has extensive experience with all pretrial, trial, and post-trial activities in the federal courts.  He has tried cases to both judgment and jury verdict.  Pat has represented parties in connection with full-evidentiary and partial-evidentiary preliminary injunction hearings, and has tried cases before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.  He also has extensive experience negotiating settlements, and has been involved in several mediations and court-ordered settlement conferences.

Pat’s background in physics has enabled him to work on a wide variety of intellectual property matters.  Pat's patent practice has involved diverse areas of technology, ranging from complicated materials handling systems, automated chemical additive systems, and mail sorting systems to the anatomy of a horse's foot.  His copyright and trademark practice has included several cases relating to grey market goods, along with cases relating to widely popular figurines, novelty motion lamps, and product designs for awnings for recreational vehicles.

In addition to being a member of various legal bar organizations, Pat is an active member of the International Network of Boutique Law Firms.  He is also a member of the Board of the Glenview Education Foundation, and serves on the Business Alliance Comittee of the Metropolitan Club of Chicago.  He is a past member of the Board of the Young Executives Club of Chicago.
