Professional Experience
Roy has been with McAndrews, Held & Malloy since 2003.  Roy’s practice involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications with an emphasis in maximizing patent protection and patent value for clients.

Prior to joining the Firm, Roy gained valuable experience in a variety of functional areas that include patent analysis and prosecution, design engineering, product management, business development, sales and marketing.  Roy’s work experience encompassed technologies in Internet telephony, wireless and wireline communications, data networking, electronic circuits, medical devices, and semiconductors.

Roy’s career started as an electrical engineer at Hughes, where he designed electro-optical sensor electronics and performed speech intelligibility research and development.  After obtaining practical experience as an engineer, Roy subsequently earned his MBA degree.  Thereafter, he held technical management positions of increasing responsibility at various companies.

Before starting his career, Roy graduated from U.C.L.A. where he was a Departmental Scholar of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.  He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and is also a member of Tau Beta Pi (Engineering) and Eta Kappa Nu (Electrical Engineering) honoraries.   He earned his Master of Science degree in electrical engineering through a Hughes Corporate Fellowship.

Because of his diverse technical and business background, Roy is well suited in facilitating intellectual property matters.  Roy has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in areas such as electrical / electronic circuits and systems, computer hardware/software, telecommunications, business processes, medical devices, gaming methods and systems.
