Professional Experience
Stephen F. Sherry has for the last 21 years been involved in trial and appellate practice involving numerous areas of intellectual property and a wide range of technologies. His courtroom trial experience includes:
· Two trials involving patents related to the catalytic conversion of acrylonitrile to acrylamide.
· Co-counsel at trial involving a patent for enzymatic contact lens cleaners.
· Co-counsel at trial involving patents on the structure of soft contact lenses.
· Co-counsel at the first jury trial of a patent dealing with recombinant DNA technology used to produce pharmaceuticals.
· Co-counsel at trial concerning patents on a disposable blunt cannula and needleless injection sites for hospital use.
· Co-counsel at theft of trade secrets trial involving technology for the manufacture of printed circuit boards.
· Co-counsel at two trials concerning patents relating to implanted cardiac rhythm management devices.
Steve’s appellate experience includes:
· Presenting oral argument before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in a trademark opposition and cancellation proceeding.
· Presenting oral argument before the Federal Circuit in an appeal from a judgment enter following a jury trial on several biotechnology patents.
Steve has authored and co-authored a number of papers dealing with patent litigation issues, especially in the area of the doctrine of equivalents and biotechnology, which have been presented at the annual meeting of the American Bar Association Section of Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law, at numerous Annual Conferences held at the John Marshall Law School, and at an ALI-ABA Course on Biotechnology Law. Steve is also the author of a chapter dealing with patenting human life which appears in a book on bioethics published by Trinity International University’s Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity.
His other interests include aviation, especially the history of naval aviation, and any activity involving the outdoors and being on or in the water.
