Professional Experience
Bill Wesley has over thirty years experience in the field and is internationally known for litigation and licensing in complex technical cases.  Bill is annually listed in Euromoney Magazine's "Guide to the World's Leading Patent Law Experts" and is listed in "Who's Who Among American Lawyers," the "Leading Lawyers Network" and "Illinois Super Lawyers."    

After obtaining a degree in electrical engineering from Marquette University (Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, Alpha Sigma Nu) and several years experience with Texas Instruments and Motorola, he obtained a Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago (Cum Laude, American Jurisprudence Awards).  

Bill has conducted numerous bench and jury trials in complex litigation both here and abroad, including patent, trade secret and international trade proceedings.  He has also conducted a wide variety of inter partes proceedings before the U.S. and European Patent Offices, including interferences, appeals, protests, reexaminations, public use proceedings and third party observations and opposition.  Bill's Appellate experience includes various Circuit Courts of Appeal as well as the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and the Board of Patent Interferences and Appeals of the Patent Office.  

The subject matter has included, among other things,

·     Digital computers and related hardware and software, including all forms of memories, memory arrays, removable drives, power management, battery chemistry, displays, artificial intelligence, I/O devices, etc.

·     Analog and digital communications, including satellite networks, antenna technology, modems, air to ground links, etc.  

·     Electrical connectors, telephony, Internet architecture and use for various applications  

·     HVAC, electric motors and motor controls, consumer appliances

·     Aircraft wheel and brakes, engines, instrument landing systems, inertial guidance, autopilots, etc.  

·     Hearing aids and testing equipment

·     Food chemistry and processing, plant chemistry and husbandry

·     Medical imaging and related diagnostic equipment, medical diagnostic and therapeutic arrays and testing equipment, molecular biology, DNA testing  

·     Bar code and RFID equipment

·     Road and rail transportation systems, grade crossings, safety devices

Bill has lectured on a variety of topics before the ABA, the International Trade Commission and numerous other professional bodies and was instrumental in the use and development of arbitration for Patent Office interference proceedings.  He has been lead counsel for Fortune 500 companies in both arbitration and mediation proceedings on numerous occasions.  He has an extensive licensing practice and is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES), the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).  

Bill has held many civic posts and for over a decade was a Hearing Officer for the Illinois State Pollution Control Board.
